Argentina 2 Cote d'Ivoire 1

That was a pretty good game. Argentina played a very good first half - Riquelme really is a midfielder who can control the game. However, they shut it down in the second half, so it was difficult to tell whether they can play a whole game that well.

Also, IC is a very good team, and played a lot better in the second half (although they seemed resigned to the loss, even after Drogba's goal). Any other group and I'm sure they'd get through to the 2nd round. But in the Group of Death, alas, probably not.

I was hoping that IVC will shred Argentina to pieces, but that didn't pass. It was annoying that nothing seemed to get through to Drogba and every IVC counter just floundered midway in the Argentenian half.

Despite it being the group of death, I think IVC can at least trounce S&M and perhaps give the Dutch a good fight. By the way, have you seen the Dutch? They are a tad bit undersized this year. Giants like Sedorf, Bergkamp, Kleivert and Stam are all replaced by small people.

I don't think IC has the midfield to get the ball to Drogba as much as they should. Strikers need service, and they had a hard time getting Drogba the ball. If you noticed, as the match went on, Drogba kept dropping further and further back to try to get the thing. All that meeant was that he had more guys in front of him when he actually did get it.

What they need to do is combine the IC and Ghana teams. Ghana has a nice midfield with Essian and Appiah - if you could combine that with Drogba and IC's defense (which is good, with Toure and Eboue), now THAT'S a good team.
